Which is positioning?

Positioning is all what webmaster do to make his site best position in search engines. This part of my definition is surely common with 99% of people who know what positioning is. I can also say that positioning is "ęłęóSearch Engine Optimization"

However your site can make first side of search result on many ways, which, in my opionion, are not positioning. One of this ways is buying sponsored links, boxes and other non cost-free services. The only non cost-free method, which my positioning definition allow, is buying positioning links (it is very important in some search engines, like Google).

So positioning not requires spending money (beside positioner payment, or buying positioning links).

Why you should make your site optimized for search engines?

If you remember last sentence of previous chapter, the answer will be very easy. You should do it because it is the cheapest method to gain traffic on your site. Most of site traffic comes from search engines. On my sites about 65% traffic is from it, so it is worth to make your site search engine optimized.

Well positioned site will gain a lot of traffic for a long time. However it requires a lot of time to di it (especially for very popular phrases).

How do make your site search engine optimized?

And whole trouble is here :) Positioning is very complex and dynamic process. The way how to do it depends on search engine and it alters in time. You should react to changes in search engines.

At the time most important search engine is Google (about 3/4 queries). I think Google works in very interesting way, and make site "Google friendly" is very big challenge.

To let your site to be in first pages of results you should (beside prepare page to be well indexed by google) gain many of external links into your site. Links from better pages are more valuable. This cause many link exchange system has origin. Google create special factor - Page Rank.

What in the future?

Working of webmasters force search engine creators to think about more efective algorithms to indexing sites. Search engine optimization (SEO) is permanent "war" between webmasters and search engine creators. This cause there is very hard to predict what will be in the future.

Everybody gain on it. Users of Internet can easier find interesting information. Webmasters don't have to worry about future employment status.
